This doesn’t mean that gamers won’t be having fun with fast cars from other brands. There are more than enough Porsches and Mercedes Benzs to keep gamers ripping the streets up. However, for gamers who want to indulge in BMWs, Need for Speed Unbound isn’t the game for that.

The Cars of Need for Speed Unbound
Need for Speed Unbound expands the franchise a lot by adding a host of new features. Like Heat, gamers can choose a playable character. This time around, their character can be decked out in fancy designer clothing from brands such as Puma and Balmain. Lakeshore City is also inhabited by plenty of pedestrians who leap out of the way as speeding cars come zipping down the street or take shortcuts through plazas. Despite this focus on the human aspect, Unbound hasn’t forgotten that its main attraction is its cars.
Gamers have a selection of over 140 cars to choose from. At the beginning of the game, there aren’t many expensive cars around to spend money on and gamers are stuck trying to make the best out of old vehicles like the 1963 VW Beetle. However, as the game progresses, more supercars are revealed including a host of Lamborghini, Ferraris, and Porsches. One of the vehicles that take center stage is rapper A$AP Rocky’s Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 1988 which has been heavily customized to show off his style. For gamers who love cars, Need for Speed Unbound won’t disappoint - that is, unless players favor BMWs. This time around, they haven’t been much attention, and this could be a shocking letdown to some.
Need for Speed Unbound and BMW
Only a handful of BMWs make an appearance in NFS Unbound, and none of them manage to steal the show. This includes the following:
BMW i8 Coupe 2018 BMW i8 Roadster 2018 BMW M1 1981 BMW M2 Competition 2019 BMW M3 2010 (and the convertible) BMW M4 Coupe 2018 BMW M4 GTS 2016 BMW M4 Convertible 2017 BMW M5 2018 BMW X6 M 2016 BMW Z4 M40i 2019
There is not a very large selection to choose from, especially compared to other luxury car brands that enjoy far more attention. It is a stark difference from games like 2005’s Need for Speed: Most Wanted where a customized BMW M3 GTR was allowed to grace the cover. It appears that the spotlight has moved on to other car brands. For gamers who love BMWs, they will have to turn to titles like Forza Horizon 5 to get to play with more models from the car manufacturer.
Need for Speed Unbound suggests the franchise is moving in a good direction. It has begun to find an identity that suits it in the modern gaming landscape. Furthermore, the inclusion of varied racing events including the new Takeover event ensures that it never feels too repetitive. Future Need for Speed titles would do well to not neglect BMWs so much, as they do have their fair share of fans who would love to race with more of them.
Need for Speed Unbound is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
