Chandresh Jain alias Jupiter, 35, was arrested from Jaipur and presented in the district court on Sunday.
“The court has sent Jain to five days’ police custody,” Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) S.N. Srivastava told IANS.
“Jain was arrested from Jaipur Sunday morning. It is the 30th arrest in the spot fixing case by Delhi Police till now,” he said.
Of the other 29 arrested, 21 are on bail, while eight are in judicial custody.
Three Rajasthan Royals players – S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila – were arrested by the Delhi Police from Mumbai May 16. While Sreesanth and Chavan are out on bail, Chandila is still languishing in Tihar jail.
Jain’s grandfather was a jeweller in Ajmer while his father used to exchange old, torn Indian currencies to earn his livelihood.
After completing his graduation in 2007, his father sent him Mumbai to work under the guidance of a builder, who was also a punter.
“Jain also became a punter after learning the tactics of betting. Later, he came in contact with three other bookies – Arvind, Uday and Rajesh – and started running his own betting racket along with them. But, in a few months he separated with them after a dispute,” said Srivastava.
In the meantime he came in contact with the other bookies Ramesh Vyash, Ashwini Aggrawal alias Tinku Mandy, Salman and Javed Chutani who are allegedly involved in the IPL-6 spot fixing scandal.
“In 2012 IPL, Jain fixed a match following which Jaipur Crime Branch also raided at his house but he escaped. For three-four months he could not manage his work properly. But, in December 2012 he again started his betting business from a farmhouse of one of his friends in Jaipur,” said the officer.
“When police arrested Tinku Mandy, he was in Delhi. Since then he is changing his hideouts in different Indian cities,” said Srivastava.
