The name for the new power-up is a pretty good indicator of which powers it bestows upon Mario whenever the plump plumber puts on his newly discovered apparel, but Nintendo hasn’t even come out and officially announced or shown off what players will be able to accomplish with this new suit. The only thing Nintendo has done is reveal a picture of their mascot trying on his new duds.
Presumably, players will be able to throw the boomerang to hit enemies, and maybe even reach otherwise unreachable items. Longtime fans have probably pieced together that this item is very obviously based off the Boomerang Bros., one of the reoccurring enemies that Mario has encountered throughout several different adventures.
It’s always interesting to see what Miyamoto and Nintendo come up with in terms of new items for each Super Mario game, and Super Mario 3D Land isn’t an exception. Nintendo may have a few more items that haven’t been revealed yet, so fans should expect one or two more new (or classic) items to be announced between now and the game’s release.
This latest power-up has this particular writer giddy with excitement over what potential name and form it will take prior to Mario picking it up — the ‘Boom-Shroom’ seems like a solid name choice. Wouldn’t you agree?
Super Mario 3D Land is set to collect your coins when it releases on November 13th for the Nintendo 3DS.
